Lincoln Womeldorph was born on Thanksgiving Day 2006 (8 days later than his due date) at Allen Birthing Center. He greeted us weighing a healthy 11lb 2oz and was born quickly and naturally without complications, drugs or medical issues. Before Lincoln began showing the signs of discomfort, he was a happy and content growing baby. Even after what his body has experienced so far, Lincoln is still a happy and content little guy and seems even happier (praise God he is already healing).
On February 19, 2007 (4 days shy of being 3-months old), Lincoln Womeldorph was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. On 2/15/07, Lincoln was taken to the ER with what we and the Pediatrician thought was constipation or a twisted bowel and the ER sent him home with care instructions for a bladder infection. The next day (Fri), Lincoln was back at the hospital for more tests because he was not urinating and cried inconsolably. These tests revealed a 9 cm diameter pear shaped tumor in his lower pelvic area that had completely obstructed his bladder. We had to wait until Monday at 4pm to have an operation to see if they could remove the tumor. During surgery they realized they could not remove it without damage to near by organs. So they did a biopsy. The results came back malignant, our son has cancer and our world started spinning fast. Since this diagnosis, he has had a bone marrow test and a bone scan to see if the cancer spread and evidence shows that it has not (AMEN!!).
Lincoln started his first treatment of Chemotherapy to shrink the tumor on Wednesday (2/21). This process to treat cancer is going to be long and difficult on his little body (protocol is 42 weeks) but, we believe that by taking baby steps and with our faith in God, he will be healed quickly and completely and when he does, the Lord God will have shown all of us his ability to perform a miracle!!
Many have asked in the past how they can help and we always replied with requesting all of you to pray. We have the very best family and friends. We are asking for your help to fund the Lincoln J. Womeldorph Foundation, Inc.
The Lincoln J. Womeldorph Foundation, Inc. was founded to support children with Rhabdomyosarcoma faced with insurance denials or reduced benefits for treatments that are preferred/superior to accepted/established. These superior treatments are often quite expensive and insurance companies deem them as investigational and/or not medically necessary practices to reduce their financial responsibility. Rhabdomyosarcoma is rare and even more rare in an infant. For this reason, there exists little funding to support clinical trials, long term studies, and/or improved protocols that would deem these superior treatments as medically necessary/accepted for Rhabdomyosarcoma. The foundation fills the gap when necessary providing financial relief and offering hope for a more healthy future and outcome for infants with Rhabdomyosarcoma. This foundation has applied for 501(c)3 status.
If you can donate anything at all, please know that your contribution is greatly appreciated!
